Migrant Cities (?)
Although there are several—or there will be soon—of these encampments, some readers are aware of the so-called migrant city northeast of Houston in Liberty County known as Colony Ridge. As I have belabored before, there seems to be no need to distinguish between migrants and immigrants (legal or illegal). Perhaps we should just do away with immigrant(s) as Glenn Beck, Tucker, Trump, DeSantis, Mike Adams, Todd Bensman, Michael Yon, Gregg Abbott, Ken Paxton, Clayton Morris, Elon Musk, and many others don’t see fit to use distinctive language. It’s sloppy usage with terms that have legal consequences.
Although I would be surprised to learn that there are no migrants in Colony Ridge, I am certain that very few of its inhabitants intend to return to their homes in their former country of domicile. Only by returning to their former home after performing some seasonal labor would they qualify as migrants. And some of these migrants might not have crossed international borders. They might be long-time United States citizens who chase seasonal work within our borders—i.e. legally—or legally permitted to cross our federal border with a work visa.
But places like Colony Ridge are IMMIGRANT camps.
After explaining this to some of my friends, the common response is that they, henceforth, will merely refer to these people as a invaders or illegals or illegal aliens. This is not my intention. We need to master the distinctions of migrants and immigrants by using them. Avoiding them does not foster understanding.
